Bingham Community Led Plan Steering Group

In the beginning

In Bingham the matter of developing a Neighbourhood Plan was considered at two Town Council meetings in November 2013 and January 2014. At the second of these the Town Council agreed to support the development of a Community-led Plan with the aim of following it with a Neighbourhood Plan.

On 31st March 2014 a well-attended public meeting was held in the Methodist Hall, called by the Town Council. There was widespread support for the proposal to develop a Community-led Plan and 23 individuals signed up to take part in the steering group. The Town Council were encouraged by this and then took the steps to call a meeting in order to establish a Steering Group. In this, they worked alongside Jenny Kirkwood of Rural Community Action Nottinghamshire (RCAN), who was to become the advisor to the Steering Group.

After a preliminary meeting in June all 23 were invited to a July meeting. The 17 people who came were made into the Steering Group. From among them a chairman, vice-chairman, secretary and treasurer were elected. At this point, the two town councillors, Tracey Kerry and Tony Fox, who had carried the process to this point, stepped back and left the Steering Group to work on its own. Both, however, retain links with the SG and are responsible for reporting on it to the Town Council.

Steering Group meetings are held on the third Monday each month and it is planned to continue with these until the project finishes, provisionally at the end of 2015.
